The term “trust rank” refers to the trust level Google gives to a website. That is one reason everything we do while building an SEO campaign should be aimed, in part, at raising the level of trust Google will give our pages. The purpose of link building is to show that there are other websites that have gained a level of trust about the content we are providing, and we are expecting Google to trust our site more as a consequence. To improve your Google trust rank, you will not have to do anything wildly different to what you are doing in terms of SEO now. This is because the two are not mutually exclusive. The best way to improve your trust rank has already been mentioned, by link building, however, just having a lot of links to your site is not enough. Google will also look at the sites from which you are getting links from for their relevancy to your site and the rank they also hold. The more relevant a site the more a link from that site is worth. When most people go about link building they will usually ignore the importance of quality links, many people simply look at a link as a link and go for quantity over quality. This is the wrong way to go about link building, the main aim for successful link building is to get some from ‘authority’ sites, these are sites that have a high Google rank and a high trust rank themselves, an authority site link is worth more than many irrelevant site links. Authoritative back links from places such as top educational websites, Government sites, news portals, and other popular expert websites are the types of sites you want to aim for when link building. But again, similar topic, content or services matter, Google can actually spot irrelevant link building. So just trying to get links from big, popular websites with high trust rankings will not work, it will actually make your SEO less effective. SEO techniques simply are not that black and white, Google and many other search engines have a bevy of complex analytics and algorithms in place to ensure that search results are relevant to users. What contributes to your trust rank is a number of things, the amount of keywords on your pages, how relevant each page is, your site as a whole contributes to your trust rank. Although nobody is completely sure it is thought that Google will track your trust rank for a long time and not simply on a day to day or week to week basis, allowing the trust rank to remain realistic and not plummet through the course of a week or go sky high in a short amount of time. This means you need to pay attention to your trust rank at all times.

Use a good reliable web host. If your site is down when Google’s robot comes visiting, your site is likely to disappear from the index. Many really “cheap” web hosts can end up being very expensive.

This presentation starts with a simple block of code written by the Lazy Programmer, to observe how laziness made the code more compact and simpler. We then define the Principle of Least Authority(POLA), and explain why it is a best practice for secure programming. We show how laziness in that first example enabled enforcement of POLA. We then put the Lazy Programmer through a series of increasingly more difficult tasks as management attempts to make the Lazy Programmer work hard. To achieve maximum laziness, the Lazy Programmer is driven toward increasingly more modular, encapsulating OO designs that happen to implement POLA; ultimately compelled to build systems with defense in depth to avoid work. A secret truth is thus revealed: lazy OO programmers have been using secure techniques for decades, if only they had known. We then describe the tools that turn laziness into correctly enforced security for JavaScript, Java, and distributed computing.

Marc Stiegler is a researcher at Hewlett-Packard Labs who has written “Introduction to Capability Based Security,” and designed CapDesk and Polaris, a windows overlay that isolates applications from one another to allow virus safe computing.
